As Far As It Will Take Me

What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

I used to be able to run like a deer.

Long runs were my contemplation time. It was when I worked out solutions to problems in my life. When I shoved in my ear buds, cranked the tunes, and ran as far as my thoughts and legs could take me.

I loved my long runs.

Somewhere in between multiple foot fractures, plantar fasciitis, and a surgery to repair the bone structure in my foot, my brain finally accepted what my body had been trying to tell me – I needed to slow down on the running.

When I first started lifting, I loathed gym time. But the stronger I got, the more definition I saw.  I never saw the physical “results” with running. This was the start of an exciting new physical chapter of my life.

Today, my weekly exercise consists of three- or four-day split, dumbbell lift sessions. I fully understand that I am probably overdoing it, but in between each exercise within a set, I do ten kettlebell swings. It’s the perfect amount of strength and cardio, allowing me to break a sweat, decompress, and get close to that “runner’s high” I used to experience.

Today, lifting weights is my absolute favorite! I shove in my ear buds, crank the tunes, and lift as long and hard as my thoughts and entire body will take me.
