What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I don’t like this Daily Prompt. I’m a blogger. If there’s something that most people don’t know about me, it’s because I purposely don’t share it. But…

I have a pet acorn.

Most people know how utterly superstitious I am. I wish on repeating numbers and falling stars, I blow cinnamon through my front door and say “white rabbit” three times on the first day of each month, I don’t put new shoes on the table. New Year’s? Oh hell. There’s a whole load of superstitious tips and tricks I accomplish or don’t.

Most would be surprised, however, to know about the little acorn I carry in my pocket. It’s with me always. Last night while out of town, I realized that I forgot to slip on my wedding rings before we left the house. I didn’t forget my acorn.

At the beginning of Autumn, I go out into the woods, and locate the perfect acorn. It can’t be too big. I have to carry it in my pocket for Pete’s sakes! No worm holes, obviously. It must be fully intact, meaning, no cracks and the cap still attached. The perfect acorn. I thank the tree for my gift and slip in into my pocket.

The acorn symbolizes growth and potential. I carry this acorn in my pocket all fall and winter long, as a protection against negativity, and to draw good luck and prosperity. Each spring, I thank my little acorn and return him/her to the earth.
